Using EMDR Therapy with Complex Trauma - Live Webinar

$160.00

Training Overview:

When working with complex trauma through the EMDR therapy process there is an increase potential for blocking, looping, and out of window of tolerance experiences.  Therapists often run into blocking beliefs, somatic experiences, and abreactions.  Because of the increase of these potential experiences for clients, the clinician needs more tools in their tool belt to prepare the client for EMDR processing.

This training will prepare clinicians to quickly identify and differentiate simple and complex traumas as well as common blocking beliefs experienced by clients with complex trauma.  Additionally this training will provide a pathway for clinicians to predict resources a client may need specifically developed in phase 2 of EMDR that will better prepare them for the reprocessing phases.  Clinicians will learn how to differentiate between restricted protocols to better make clinical decisions for the clients in reprocessing.

When working with complex trauma using EMDR it is critical to recognize blocking in processing and how to use cognitive interweaves to help the client smoothly process the target memory.  This training will not only help clinicians recognize blocking beliefs, but also equip them by listing various cognitive interweaves that can be used to help support a client during processing.  And finally this training will expand on the learning from basic EMDR training to include a more robust preparation and processing experience for clients with complex trauma.

Training Objectives:

  1. Define the difference between simple and complex trauma.

  2. Define Blocking Beliefs typical of complex trauma and learn to recognize blocking beliefs in the prep phases of EMDR

  3. List at least 2 assessments that can be used to assess complex trauma in phase 1 of EMDR Therapy

  4. List at least 3 resources that can be developed with clients in phase 2 to help prepare them for trauma processing.

  5. Differentiate target sequencing with complex trauma vs single incident trauma

  6. Differentiate when to use the restricted protocols rather than the standard protocol when targeting complex trauma targets.

  7. List at least 3 ways cognitive interweaves are used in phases 4-6 reprocessing phases.

  8. List 2 ways to work with Blocking Beliefs as they arise in phases 4-6.
